LATEST MANGO SEASON UPDATE,
2011 was a historic year for us in many ways- we always dreamed of getting the best mangoes
from around the world to our customers in the US. This year we were able to import the best mangoes
from India and Pakistan to our customers. Mangozz.com is probably the only place in the world where
a mango lover can order all their choicest varieties of mangoes at the click of a mouse. We were
finally able to begin the supply chain for the Pakistani mango and our customers were the first to
receive Chausa from Multan in Pakistan. We hope to build on this and improve the supply chain for
each of these in 2012. Mango is a very sensitive fruit and the best of the mangoes are complex
flavors which need to ripen properly through the supply chain to provide the best flavor. We hav
the best of the orchards working with us, we also have field data about the quality of fruit at
the different orchards at the source and are able to make selections based on our experience with
them. We have also made improvements to the supply chain to help the fruit survive the strenuous
journey from the tree to your hands. This is a continuous process and we being mango lovers are
totally committed to it.
Following is an update on the 2011 season for Mango from the Indian subcontinent.
Alphonso Mango: Alphonso
mango in the Devgad and Ratnagiri belt suffered due to the
climate change in 2011. The mango recovered in the Ratnagiri region, but could not pick up
in the Devgad region. Despite the reduced yield and poor quality, we
generally had good mango all season, except for a part of our season
end shipments which had a higher incidence of sponginess.
Kesar Mango: The
Kesar mango was in good condition and abundant in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The
season was however delayed by a few weeks due to the unusually cold
weather. We had a full season of Kesar mangoes this year.
Banganpalli Mango: The
yield of Banganpalli was lower than last year and the general quality of the fruit across the board was
not great. We had to sample a few orchards before getting our supply from Rajamundri. Our
Banganpalli was very well received by the market and we had a full season. We
brought a special shipment of Banganpalli to close out the season. We have many customers waiting
for 2012 so that they can get their hands on their Banganpalli (or Benishan as called by many).
Langra Mango: The quality of the fruit was not
that good and the crop was delayed. Our Langra shipments from India could not come this
year due to the early departure of the US inspector and his refusal to allow Langra without clarifications. We are looking to
import Langra from Pakistan later in the season.
Dussehri Mango: Malihabad
had only 40% crop this year due to the weather. The season was delayed. Our Dussehri
shipments from India could not come this year due to the early departure of the US inspector from India and his
refusal to allow Dussehri without clarifications.
Chausa Mango: Malihabad
had only 40% crop this year due to the weather. The season was on schedule. However due to the
early departure of US inspector from India, the mango could not come from India. We shipped the first commercial shipment
received from Pakistan on Aug 15. Shipments are planned for September 19th and September 26th.
